Founded in 2001, The Department provides training in English and German as foreign language. The Department courses specifics is that the focus here is upon language and interaction skills within specific areas of professional activities, and that training follows the modular structure of three major blocks: general, business and professional communication.
The Department is also responsible for training students wishing to obtain an optional qualification of “Translator in professional communication areas”

The Department  coordinates and monitors translation traineeship of students

Head: prof. Astafurova Tatiana Nikolayevna, Doctor of Science

Students with propensity and aptitude to academic research work are welcome to join postgraduate studies in “Germanic languages” or “Theory and techniques of foreign language teaching”.

Key research areas are:
Linguistics: stylistic aspects of intercultural communication
Linguistics: stylistic aspects of various professional discourses
Linguistics: stylistic and genre specifics of text composition
Comparative and contrastive analysis of concepts in various cultures

The Department makes an extensive use of original audio and video materials in the curriculum, with preference to those published in USA or United Kingdom.

Members of the Department has taken special courses in Business English at the British Council, and received certificates approving participation in the Presidential Program of advanced vocational training for management and administrative staff
